FGIA Releases Updated Specification for Impact, Cycle Testing of Windows, Doors, Skylights, Sliding Glass Doors

The Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance  (FGIA) has updated its specification and test method, AAMA 910-24, which models normal wear and tear through accelerated testing for AW Class windows and doors. Now available for purchase in the FGIA online store, this document was last updated in 2016 and revised by the FGIA Lifecycle Testing Review Task Group.

Rich Rinka, FGIA Technical Manager  for Fenestration Standards and U.S. Industry Affairs, explained that the AAMA 910 “Life Cycle” testing specification for AW Class windows and doors has been widely accepted for over 20 years. With advancements in technology and extensive test data, the specification now addresses current market needs like longer warranties, sustainable designs, more durable finishes, and stricter code requirements.

The updated specification includes clarified language for ease of use, enhanced performance requirements like thermal cycling, increased operating cycles, and higher misuse loads to better distinguish AW products from other performance classes.

AAMA 910-24 and other FGIA documents are available for purchase online at a discounted member rate of $20 or a non-member price of $60. The North American Fenestration Standard (NAFS), which references AAMA 910, is also available for purchase.
